Center of japan, Tokyo province has long history, and 35 million people living in this metropolitan. In this city, western and eastern culture collided, blended each other, and made lots of diverse events. So now Tokyo become as the heart of asian popular culture.

JAPAN CULTURAL CHRONICLE

Japan’s culture evolve organically. It was established by inflow of external culture and mix made its own. And then spreads their culture to worldwide, affects all over the world, foothold of today’s pop culture. Those cultural history are accumulated like stratum.

LAYERS OF TIME IN TOKYO

The surface of Tokyo has been stacking for a long time. Not only because of the deposit of river but also rod tamping on old home place and building for a new house repeatedly, current surface is higher than past. The Edo period, Meiji period and other periods have been asleep below the ground that we are stepping on.

UNCOVER TIME TRACES

Stratum is formed by accumulated sediments scripts time. Culture is formed by accumulated records of human life. Project starting point is showing traces of time under the present. We make new square by excavating ground and make new cultural stratum above the square.
