THE FRAME

Hongdae district is the origin of band and club culture. This sub culture became the major, so many people enroll this cultural stances.

But these cultural space have no interactions between city context cause of its location - basement and underground. The cultural phenomenon is major but the space don’t. We need gestures to support this clubs, bands, performances, and indie - sub cultures.

RAISE THE CONCERT HALL ; DISPLAY EVERYTHING

Conventional underground concert hall let audiences enter through the ticket booth and lobby which are faced to the roads. In the other hand, musicians and performers enter from behind the auditorium. This system gives only a chance to see the perform at that moment. Besides there is no way to realized where;s the concert hall and what is going on there.

So to be everyday - musical hall, lift the concert hall up from underground. Furthermore, face all the elements of concert hall to the streets. That makes the revealing all visual data of concert hall.

The frame, which faced to the street, unveiled everything of perform and practice. Their music , as a wealth, so they protected by many layers. Music library, cafe, lobby is provided to public. Ticketed people get more visual and audio information than public. (it filtered) This ‘framed’ concert hall is the display of concert hall.

Site is located on near two street junction - one is hongdae club street, the other is hongdae walk-friendly street - surrounded by exist club and concert hall. Program setting follows the hierarchy of musical depth of wealth. And setting front and back from city context. Also consider with district characteristic - sub-culture - set up inner building program.

Furthermore, interaction between programs can be observed inner building. Music library and sunken garden is the center of the building visual information.

NEW PARADIGM OF CONCERT HALL

This concert hall gets all of visual data of performances. Music library is public goods that can easily approach to get informations. Plus a filter, (tickets) reached to concert hall. Concert hall provide visual data with limited audio data to outsider otherwise every data to insider. Final filter, (wealth of music) studio and recording room located on the top floor that only provide visual informations.

THE FRAME

홍대는 밴드와 클럽 문화의 발원지이다. 한국에 처음 나타난 이 하위, 비주류 문화는 시간이 흐르며 현재 주류 문화로 성장하였고, 이를 향유하는 사람들도 늘어났다. 하지만 여전히 대부분의 이 문화 공간은 지하에 위치해 도시와의 맥락을 맺지 못하고 있다. 문화 현상은 주류지만, 공간은 이 문화 현상의 발전을 뒷받침해주지 못하고 있다. 클럽, 밴드, 공연, 인디 문화의 발원지인 홍대에 이런 현상을 받아주고 보여줄 공간이 필요하다.

공연을 전시하다

기존의 공연장은 도로에 면한 티켓 부스와 로비를 통해 관객들이 지하로 입장한다. 뮤지션들과 공연자들은 건물의 배면에서 진입한다. 이러한 시스템은 공연이라는 순간에만 공연을 볼 수 있다. 게다가 도시의 가로에서는 어디에 공연장이 있는지, 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 전혀 알 길이 없다.

보다 일상적으로 음악을 향유하는 공연장이 되기 위해 공연장을 지상으로 끌어 올린다. 나아가 모든 프로그램을 길을 면하게 돌려버린다. 이것은 공연장의 모든 시각 정보를 공개한다.

길과 면한 부분은 하나의 액자로서, 시각적으로 공연과 뮤지션들의 작업, 연습이 공개된다. 그들의 음악(청각정보)은 기밀이자 재화인 셈이므로 가장 많은 레이어로 보호된다. 뮤직 라이브러리, 식당, 로비와 같은 경우는 제3자, 불특정 다수에게도 공개된다. 공연장 내부로 들어온 사람에겐 보다 확실한 시각정보와 청각 정보를 제공한다. 외부의 사람들에겐 이 공연장은 여러 모습들의 동시에 보여지는 도심속 전시된 공연장일 것이다.

부지는 홍대 클럽 거리와 홍대 걷고 싶은 거리의 교차점에 위치하고, 기존의 공연장과 클럽들로 둘러싸여있다. 건물 내부 프로그램 배치는 앞선 음악적 위계를 따라 배치한다. 건물의 전면과 배면을 도시적 맥락으로 설정한다. 또 홍대라는 지역이 가지는 문화적 B급 정서 (홍대 문화의 특징인 으슥하고, 배후 공간에서의 작업)를 함께 고려, 앞에서 뒤로 갈수록 보다 내밀한 프로그램이 자리 잡게 하였다.

더 나아가 건물의 내부에서도 이러한 움직임을 관찰 할 수 있다. 뮤직 라이브러리와 성큰 광장을 중심으로 건물 내부에서 일어나는 음악적 활동을 모두 관찰 할 수 있다.

새로운 시스템의 공연장

기존 공연장 시스템과 달리 거리에서 음악과 공연에 관련된 모든 시각정보를 얻을 수 있다. 뮤직 라이브러리는 모든 사람을 위해 공개된 공공재로 정보의 취득이 쉽다. 여기서 하나의 필터(공연 티켓)를 거쳐 공연장에 도달한다. 공연장은 외부인에게는 시각정보만, 내부인에게는 청각정보까지 제공한다. 마지막 필터(음악이라는 재화)로 연습실과 작업실은 최상층에 위치하여 모두에게 시각정보한 제공한다.
